We are a pioneering organization dedicated to connecting rural and isolated communities in Kenya through the construction of safe and reliable footbridges. For over 20 years, BtGA has built more than 80 bridges, transforming the lives of thousands by providing essential access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Mission
Build safe and reliable pedestrian footbridges that prevent accidental drownings and ensure uninterrupted access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for rural African communities.
Her Story
Nengume could see the clinic’s lights glowing in the dark, a beacon of hope for her sick child. As the lights grew closer, her hope grew stronger. She adjusted the baby on her back and pressed forward. But then, she heard the sound she dreaded—the roar of the rushing river ahead.
The same waters that sustained her community were now a barrier between her and the help she needed. Crossing the floodwaters, especially at night, would be certain death. A safe crossing was miles away. She looked across the river at the lights—hope so close, yet just out of reach.
Vision
A world where every rural and isolated communites are connected by safe and accessible footbridges, fostering thriving and empowered societies.
What is the story of Bridging the Gap Africa?
It is the story of a footbridge that gives hope and transforms a community.
It’s not just one story—it’s thousands. It’s the story of the woman who can’t reach the clinic, the child who struggles to get to school, and the farmer unable to sell his crops. In an isolated, walking world, rivers are both a source of life and a threat to survival. During flood seasons, entire villages are cut off from vital resources, and the desperate attempts to cross these rivers often end in tragedy.
Harmon Parker, the founder of Bridging the Gap Africa (BtGA), heard these stories and was determined to make a difference. More than 20 years ago, he began building footbridges over dangerous rivers in Kenya, providing safe passage where there was none. To date, BtGA has constructed over 80 bridges, with the help of a dedicated team of Kenyan engineers and trained bridge builders.
Our vision is to ensure that every rural and isolated community in Kenya has safe access to life’s basic necessities. The story of Bridging the Gap Africa continues as we build bridges to a better, safer world.
